Men’s Group: Navigating the “Male Loneliness Epidemic”

Hey hey! Thanks for your interest in joining my Men’s Group- Navigating the “Male Loneliness Epidemic.”

What it is: A space for guys to connect with each other while learning how to better connect to others — hosted by a male relational psychologist who gets it.

For all the online joking and criticizing about the “Male Loneliness Epidemic,” the underlying problem is real: many of the social structures that used to help men connect have been relegated to the past. Hyper-masculine norms of strength, individuality and independence still permeate, but they don’t fit the newer competing expectations, and opportunities, for men to be kind, sensitive and emotionally attuned. Confusing and judgmental language permeates: be protectors and bread-winners, but not assholes. Be confident, lead the way, make the move, but don’t be a creep. Share your feelings, but don’t be explosive or weak and give off the ick. It all makes men who are genuinely trying to be “good” more susceptible to seeking comfort and faux-connection in over-working, screen time, gambling, porn, and unfulfilling dating app cycles.  These solitary distractions increase isolation and ultimately make the problem worse. Let’s break the cycle.

Better, deeper, more rewarding connections are possible. Relationships with partners, friends, family, community members, and even relative strangers that together serve to help men feel less alone and more confident, joyful, purposeful, and supported. It starts by getting together, getting real, and connecting with one another. Talking openly, building trust, reflecting honestly, feeling fully, and navigating conflict, together. I’ll be here to help.
